If you’re a fan of the TOLL HOUSE® refrigerated cookie dough (as I am!), then please be aware that Nestlé® has initiated a voluntary recall of all their refrigerated cookie dough products.
The products involved in the voluntary recall include all varieties of Nestlé TOLL HOUSE refrigerated dough: Cookie Bar Dough, Cookie Dough Tub, Cookie Dough Tube, Limited Edition Cookie Dough items, Seasonal Cookie Dough and Ultimates Cookie Bar Dough. These products are shown below:
According to Nestlé USA’s Baking Division, they are initiating the recall due to, “…an abundance of caution after being notified that the Food and Drug Administration, together with the Centers for Disease Control, are conducting an investigation into reported E. coli 0157:H7 illnesses that may be related to consumption of raw cookie dough.”
“A number of consumers reporting illness reported consuming raw Nestlé TOLL HOUSE refrigerated cookie dough. While the E. coli strain implicated in this investigation has not been detected in our product, the health and safety of our consumers is paramount so we are initiating this voluntarily recall. We have been and will continue to cooperate fully with the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control in this investigation. Providing safe, high quality products to our consumers is our number one priority.”
Only the refrigerated cookie dough products shown above are included in the recall – all other Nestlé® TOLL HOUSE® products (baking morsels, bars, cocoa) and all Dreyer’s and Edy’s ice cream products with Nestlé TOLL HOUSE cookie dough ingredients are safe and not included.
Cookie dough of any type is made and meant to be baked as directed and not eaten raw. Now I know that many of us (including myself) tend to sneak a taste (or more) here or there when baking cookies, but this is a reminder as to why it’s important to NOT consume raw cookie dough. At all. Warnings to this effect appear on all Nestlé® TOLL HOUSE® products:
If you have any of these products in your home, please don’t consume them – but instead to return these products to your local grocer for a full refund. If you have any questions, you can contact Nestlé Consumer Services at 1-800-559-5025 or visit their web site at www.verybestbaking.com.
