Review and Giveaway: Cocoa Puffs Combos

With an allergy to milk, I tend to not be a huge cereal eater. At least not in the traditional way that you think of sitting down with a bowl of it. I still enjoy many kinds of cereals, but usually as a snack by the handful, or on-the-go in a baggie. My husband and kids are cereal eaters though, so we always have various options available in the house, and everyone has their favorites.
Some of my husband’s top choices are the ‘chocolate’ flavored cereals – especially Cocoa Puffs. So when I had the opportunity to try out and review the new Cocoa Puffs Combos cereal, I figured that he would be a great help.
What they are:
Cocoa Puffs Combos are the first new product from Cocoa Puffs since they were introduced back in 1958. They combine chocolate puffs with vanilla puffs, in a classic combination that kids (and adults) love. And they are made with whole grain and are a good source of Calcium and Vitamin D as well.
Here’s my our take on them:
Deb’s take: I found these to be a really good option as a quick snack. I’m not terribly fond of the chocolaty kinds of cereals – the taste tends to be a bit strong for me, especially without the milk to tone it down at all. So I thought that these were perfect since the vanilla puffs seem to cancel out a bit of the flavor from the chocolate ones. Definitely a snack that I’d grab-and-go.
Ron’s take: Unlike me, he really likes the chocolaty cereals, and only eats them with milk. He wasn’t as impressed with these, because of the fact that the chocolate taste wasn’t as strong. He prefers the original.
The girls’ take: To be honest, we don’t let our girls have ‘sugar’ cereals very often – and never the chocolate-flavored ones (I think that Ron’s half afraid that there would never be any left for him – although I just prefer to keep them eating as little sugar as possible). They were thrilled to have the chance to try these out – and all three of them gobbled it up and asked for more. I guess it’s safe to say that they liked it.
The bottom line:
If you’re a fan of the original Cocoa Puffs, you may be slightly disappointed in the less strong ‘chocolate’ flavor that these offer. However, if you prefer a cereal that’s not quite so chocolaty-flavored, then this is a great option. Obviously, if they tasted exactly like the regular Cocoa Puffs then there’d be no reason to make them, anyway. They are easy to eat on the go, as a snack, or in the traditional manner in a bowl with milk. And they offer another great option for your breakfast table.
Where can you find them?:

I’d love to try these. Like your hubby, I really enjoy a good chocolatey cereal every now and then. My favorite for chocolate though is Cocoa Krispies. My favorite overall cereal is a tie between Kix and Trix.
