Review and Giveaway: New Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max (CLOSED)

A couple of months ago Pampers introduced their new Cruisers diapers, with Dry Max technology to provide wetness protection in a diaper that’s been completely redesigned to be 20% thinner than before – to help wiggly, active babies move around easier, and also to lessen the impact that the diapers have on the environment by containing 10 percent less material weight. Although it’s been well over a year now since I had a child in diapers myself, I am glad to see innovative new options like this coming out and giving parents better choices when it comes to their babies’ diapers. I still have friends with kids in diapers and have babysat our neighbor’s 2-year-old several times recently – it’s amazing how quickly all of that comes back, with having to remember to check the diaper, keep it changed and carry spare diapers and wipes wherever you go. So when Pampers asked if I would be interested in reviewing the new Cruisers with Dry Max, I realized it certainly wouldn’t be difficult to find some help. :)

What they are:

As mentioned, the new Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max technology are designed to be not only thinner than ever before, but also to help lock away wetness for up to 12 hours. Here are some game-changing benefits for mom, baby and the world, from Pampers:

  • For Baby: They are our driest diapers ever and the new, revolutionary Dry Max™ technology helps lock wetness in for up to 12 hours. The new thinner core gives baby freedom to move and play with all-around softness to keep him comfortable so playtime never ends.
  • For Mom: The thinner design allows mom to carry or store more of them within less space. She can also be confident that she is getting a hard working diaper for the same great price. (The product is being offered to retailers at the same price. Pricing is at the sole discretion of the retailer.)
  • For the World: They help you reduce your impact on the environment. If current North American Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers users switched to the new Pampers with Dry Max diaper, they could together throw away the weight of a billion less diapers every three years. (Based on 08/09 volume for Swaddlers/Cruisers.)

Courtesy of Pampers and American Pop, we received a week’s worth of the new Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max technology to try out and review. I am working with our neighbor to test out the diapers and will update this post as we go. For now, my initial thoughts from looking at the diapers after they arrived are included below.

Here’s my take on them:

NewPampersCruisers_001We received a package of size 6 diapers, since my neighbor’s little boy (‘E’) is 2-1/2 years old. Having had girls myself, I have not been at all prepared for the activity level of this little boy – he literally never stops moving! Whether it’s climbing under the table after one of our cats, or chasing them around the house – or following either his own older siblings or my kids around, little E is a toddler on the go. And he definitely needs a diaper that can go with him.

The package I received contained 20 size 6 diapers. I opened the package and kept one diaper out so that I could take a look – after 3 kids and almost 8 total years of changing diapers myself, I’m definitely familiar with what they usually look like. We did use size 6 Pampers Cruisers ourselves with our youngest daughter in fact, because Pampers run slightly larger than our previous brand and fit our daughter better for the six months or so before she was potty-trained. The first thing that struck me about this package was how small it was – for containing 20 diapers. I think I could’ve fit this whole package into the diaper bag that I used to use when my girls were babies – and that’s amazing. At the time I could never carry more than 5 or 6 diapers at once and still have room for the wipes, creams, extra clothing, snacks, toys, etc. that I also needed to squeeze in there. And there were times that I can remember running out while away from home – leaving me either having to run home without finishing all of my errands, or having to pick up more diapers before we really needed to. Fitting more diapers at once into the bag would be a huge help to parents, I would think. And I can definitely see where the less bulky diapers should allow babies and toddlers more freedom to move around – so I’m curious to find out what my neighbor things after she has a chance to try them for a while with little E.

I think it’s very cute that the diapers have Elmo and other Sesame Street characters on them – my girls always loved Elmo when they were little. The only issue I ever remember having with ‘character’ diapers like these though was that often my girls would want to play with, rather than wear, the diapers – which sometimes could make the diaper changing process a bit more challenging than it was to begin with. But then again, being able to use a spare diaper as a distraction usually helped well enough.

The bottom line:

At this point, my husband and I haven’t made a final decision as to whether we’re completely done having kids or not. There are a lot of factors to consider – our ages, our kids’ ages, financial and physical capabilities to support another child, fitting yet another person into this house… But also the joy and value that a new life brings to the family and the amount of love that we have to give. If we do choose to have another baby, I’ll be looking forward to trying out Pampers’ new Dry Max technology much more closely (and often, lol) in both their Swaddler and Cruiser diapers. I can only see benefits by lowering the impact on the environment and making them less bulky for parents and babies – without increasing the cost.
