Review and Giveaway: My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure DVD (CLOSED)

With three little girls in this house, there are some things that just go without saying – like the fact that we’re fairly overrun with clothing in all shades of pink, one fully working bathroom isn’t going to be enough in the next 5 to 10 years, and I am constantly stepping on eensie weensie little teeny tiny toys of all sorts. One of their favorites has always been My Little Pony – we have a bin of the original ponies and their accessories, as well as a bin full of the even teenier ‘Ponyville’ sets which my 3-year-old gets out almost daily to play with. Lately she’s had an additional request – while she plays ponies, she wants to watch her current favorite movie, over and over again (or at least as many times as I’ll allow in one day). As a result, I think I practically have the My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure DVD memorized.
What it is:
![]()
My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure is the first animated full-length My Little Pony story on DVD since 2006’s Princess Promenade. It follows the ponies of Ponyville on a special adventure during their Winter Wishes Festival while they first make their own special ornaments to hang on the ‘Ever Forever Green Tree’ and then search for the special Twinkle Wish star that adorns the top of the tree after she is stolen away. Here’s a synopsis of the DVD:
All the ponies cannot wait for the Winter Wishes festival where the Wishing Star grants each pony one special wish. But when the Wishing Star disappears, they go on a journey to find it. During their adventure, they learn what it means for wishes to really come true! But will they make it back in time for the festival? Join Pinkie Pie and all her pony friends on their journey as they discover that friendship can make wishes come true.
This DVD has been approved by The Dove foundation for family viewing. The movie is 81 minutes long and the DVD contains several bonus features:
- Six Sing-Alongs:
- My Little Pony Theme song
- The Thing-A-Ma-Do Song
- Dreams Do Come True

- That’s What Makes A Friend
- A Wonderful Winter Song
- Waiting For The Winter Wishes Festival A prequel
- Elefun and Friends A new animated short
- Four Downloadable Activities:

Here’s my our take on it:
Well, this movie had a hold of my girls as soon as they saw the My Little Pony logo. They immediately asked to watch it, and I think that it’s been played at least once a day ever since. And because I don’t always sit in the same room with them while it’s playing and the movie starts over again right after it finishes – well let’s just say that I’m really not even sure how many times they have watched it, lol. I have watched it with them a few times and it’s definitely one of the cuter movies that I’ve seen aimed for little kids. My husband won’t watch this movie – but then again he refuses to watch any of the more ‘girl-ish’ DVDs that we own in general.
As I mentioned above, one of my 3-year-old’s current favorite activities is to haul out all of the pony toys to the living room and play with them while she watches Twinkle Wish Adventure. It’s fun to listen to her re-enact scenes from the movie with her toys as only a preschooler can. Getting her to pick up the toys when she’s done playing with them is a whole adventure in itself, however. And a battle that’s routinely fought – and lost – by said preschooler every time. I have noticed though that she is much more willing to pick up and put away the pony toys if she’s watching the movie while doing so.
I like that the messages in this DVD are positive ones and that there isn’t any language or concepts that I have a problem with the girls hearing or seeing. The basic theme of the movie is about making wishes come true (although not always in the way you expect), and about friendship as well. There’s also a subtle message about telling the truth when you make a mistake instead of trying to hide or cover it up.
This is pretty much a holiday movie – without specifically being a ‘Christmas’ one. The ponies have their own Winter Wishes Festival and although there are similarities, like decorating an evergreen tree, the story stays rather secular for the most part. I think that kids of just about any faith background would be able to enjoy it. I know that it’s certainly a favorite of ours, and likely to stay that way for some time to come – especially judging by the fact that I can’t get the songs out of my head.
The bottom line:
The My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure DVD is a good option for any child who’s a fan of the My Little Pony toys or if you’re just looking for an enjoyable movie that’s suitable for young kids. The quality of the animation is quite good (it’s in the classic style, not CGI animation) and the music is catchy and easy for kids (and adults) to sing along with.
