Review and Giveaway: Michael Bublé “Crazy Love” CD (CLOSED)

My girls have suddenly gotten used to Mommy playing music in the kitchen while I’m making dinner or doing dishes, and don’t even think it’s odd anymore to hear me singing along. It’s been so nice to have the opportunity to listen to some grown-up music for once!    The latest CD that’s been playing is from Michael Bublé. Although I’d heard of him before, I’d never really had the chance to listen to his music until now. His newest CD, entitled ‘Crazy Love’ was just released on October 9th and debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Chart.

What it is:

Michael Bublé has previously released three CDs and has won numerous awards for his music, both in the US and his native Canada.

‘Crazy Love’, Michael Bublé’s first CD in two and a half years, features two original songs along with his always original take on 11 standards from various eras. The multi-Grammy winning artist hunkered down in recording studios in LA, Brooklyn, New York and his hometown of Vancouver for the last six months to make his ‘ultimate record about the inevitable roller coaster ride of relationships.’ The first single, ‘Haven’t Met You Yet,’ written by Bublé (with Alan Chang and Amy Foster) is playing on radio now. Additional tunes on the album include ‘Cry Me A River,’ ‘You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You,’ ‘Georgia On My Mind’ and ‘Baby (You’ve Got What It Takes)’ which was performed with Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings. The title song is a cover of the Van Morrison gem ‘Crazy Love.’ The CD closes out with a haunting version of ‘Stardust’ which is performed with the acapella group Naturally 7. The album was produced by David Foster, Bob Rock and Humberto Gatica.

Here’s my take on it:

Up until now, while I’d heard OF Michael Bublé, I really couldn’t say that I’d heard anything that I knew was sung by him specifically. So I really wasn’t sure what to think when I first received the CD. But wow – do I ever know him now! What a gorgeous voice, and he absolutely can sing – either the classics or his own music – beautifully. One thing that I love about this CD is that even though it’s a mix of ‘old’ and new tunes, he puts such a stamp on them all, that I sometimes don’t even remember that I’d heard a certain song before. From the slow and powerful – almost hauntingly performed, ‘Cry Me A River’ (one of my favorites), to the happy-go-lucky feel of ‘All Of Me’, there’s such a wide range of music you’re bound to find something that appeals to you. If you haven’t seen the video for “Haven’t Met You Yet”, take a quick peek above – I swear this song does make me want to stand up and dance through the aisles of the grocery store, complete with marching band and confetti falling from the ceiling. Not that I would, of course.  But it’s the kind of song that makes you want to. 

It’s also the kind of CD that makes you want to sing right along – and the fact that I’ve had a cough for two weeks now is really getting frustrating, because I just plain can’t sing out loud. Although my girls may be enjoying the break from hearing my not-so-professional renditions, I can’t wait until I can join in while I’m listening.

The bottom line:

With such a variety of songs and musical styles, there’s sure to be something to please just about everyone on Michael Bublé’s “Crazy Love” CD. Many of the songs are classics performed with a new twist by Bublé, along with a few new songs – sure to become classics themselves.
