Review and Giveaway: Oscar Mayer Premium Beef Franks (CLOSED)

“Oh I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener…”

Do you remember that popular jingle for Oscar Mayer hot dogs? I do, from when I was a kid. And now that I’m grown with a family of my own – Oscar Mayer hot dogs are the only ones that we eat. In fact, my husband will not eat any other brand or kind of hot dog period, just the ‘regular’ Oscar Mayer hot dogs made with chicken & pork. I’ve tried other brands for myself and my kids, but always come back to Oscar Mayer – they taste the best, and the quality has always been consistently good.

I do have a bit of a love/hate relationship when it comes to hot dogs though. Let’s face it – they’re quick and easy to make, especially when you’ve got to whip up dinner in between school, work, activities, etc. But there’s that little nagging feeling that they’re not exactly the best, healthiest meal to feed your family. Well, that feeling’s a lot smaller for me, now that I’ve discovered Oscar Mayer’s Premium Beef Franks.

What they are:

Oscar Mayer Premium Beef Franks come in four varieties – Light, Jumbo, Regular, and Bun-Length. These hot dogs are made purely from beef, and contain no artificial flavors, colors, fillers or by-products.

And Oscar Mayer’s Jumbo Beef Franks also recently beat out both the leading beef franks of Ball Park^® and Hebrew National^® brands in a national taste test as the ‘best-tasting’ beef hot dog!

Here’s my our take on them:

I recently sat down and had lunch with my youngest daughter – both of us trying out the Oscar Mayer beef hot dogs. She has just recently started eating her hot dogs in a bun, instead of cut up into pieces. My oldest was at school, and my 6-year-old has decided that she doesn’t like hot dogs anymore – after eating them with no complaints for most of her life. So Becca and I had ourselves a lunch date with a couple of franks:

It was so fun to watch her eat this – after eating part of the bun first, she ended up (after the video was taken) finishing off the rest of the hot dog by itself and leaving the last third or so of the bun on her plate. Silly girl. 

I think her opinion is clear though – she ate this hot dog exactly the same as she’s been eating the non-beef ones. And I actually like the beef ones better – they’re juicier and have a much better flavor. I’ve thought other beef hot dogs seemed greasy when I’ve tried them in the past, but I didn’t get that sense at all with these. My biggest reason for liking them though is that they don’t have the artificial ‘stuff’ that’s in other hot dogs. These are franks that I can feel good about putting in front of my kids at lunch or dinner time – especially with 5 grams of protein per hot dog.

The bottom line:

Hot dogs and summer just seem to go together – whether at baseball games, backyard barbeques, or just as a quick and easy dinner before dashing off to camp, practice or the pool. But they can be a much healthier mealtime option by choosing all-beef franks, and Oscar Mayer’s Premium Beef Franks are the best tasting ones that I’ve come across.
