Review and Giveaway: Frito-Lay Woman’s World Snack Pack (CLOSED)

Have you been enjoying the various webisodes on the “Only in a Woman’s World” website as much as I am? Just in case you’re not sure what I’m referring to (and even if you are) – here’s the latest, hilarious, Mother’s Day-themed webisode for you:
I think this is my favorite of all the ones released so far! 
Along with the new webisode, the site is also launching their avatar feature, where you can put your own personal style and stamp on your avatar with lots of fun hairstyles, great shoe selections, tiara’s and more. I had a blast designing one for myself:
Yep, that’s me – too-long, messy bangs and all. Even to the bag of Baked! Lay’s® in my hand, since they’re one of my absolute favorite chips. Frito-Lay’s just introduced a new flavor – Baked! Lay’s® Southwestern Ranch, and I was sent a sample to try out – along with samples of their new Flat Earth® Spicy Salsa (which I’ve reviewed before), and new Smartfood® Popcorn Clusters. I’m going to focus here on the two products that I haven’t already reviewed.
What they are:
The Baked! Lay’s® Southwestern Ranch flavor is a gluten-free snack and each 1-oz serving contains only 120 calories and 3 grams of fat – but along with 2 grams each of protein and dietary fiber. This product is different from previous ones because the spices are actually baked right into the chip, instead of being added afterward.
Smartfood® Popcorn Clusters come in three flavors: Cranberry Almond Popcorn Clusters, Chocolate Cookie Caramel Pecan Popcorn Clusters, and Honey Multigrain Popcorn Clusters. Each variety is MSG free, and contains a total of either 110 or 120 calories, and 1 to 2 grams of fat. Each bag also contains 5 grams of dietary fiber. What they don’t have is any preservatives or artificial colors or flavors.
Thanks to Frito-Lay and Zócalo Group, I received a “Woman’s World Snack Pack” which contained samples of each of these flavors and varieties, along with a huge snack bowl, to try out and review.
Here’s my our take on them:
My absolute favorite variety of Baked! Lay’s® has always been the ‘Original’ flavor. Yes, I know – boring. So I was very curious to try this new variety. I love ranch flavor, but the ‘southwestern’ part of the name had me a tad concerned. But I do have to say, they are definitely rather tasty. I don’t think it’s going to over take the ‘Original’ ones as my favorites, but I certainly wouldn’t avoid eating these if they were offered or in front of me. It’s good to have variety sometimes. None of my girls would try them though.
I did have them try the Popcorn Clusters – and opinions were mixed. I really like the ‘Chocolate Cookie Caramel Pecan’ ones (heck, with the word ‘Chocolate’ in the name, odds were that I was going to be a fan, lol), and the ‘Honey Multigrain’ ones aren’t bad either. When I have a few kernels to my 6-year-old to taste, she decided that she “likes the inside, but not the outside”. That definitely wouldn’t have been my first guess, but all three of my girls love popcorn. I didn’t like the ‘Cranberry Almond’ ones, since I don’t like Cranberries in general – but my oldest daughter ate them instead and they’ve been a quick, easy snack to toss in her backpack on school mornings.
The bottom line:
These new snack and flavor options provide even more variety and choice when it comes to healthier snack options. I love that I can get a quick ‘fix’ of salty or sweet tastes when I need to, without having to feel guilty about it later – and the convenient packaging of the Popcorn Clusters helps keep portion sizes under control. One bag seems to be just the right amount to take the edge off of hunger in between meals.
