Review and Giveaway: Protect-A-Bed

As I’ve mentioned before, I suffer from allergies. And among other things, I am allergic to dust and dust mites. One of the first changes that I had to make after being diagnosed was to get rid of the feather pillow that I’d slept with since I was a child. But it made a huge difference in how I slept at night. Well, now I’ve discovered something that makes even more of a difference – mattress and pillow protectors from Protect-A-Bed.
What they are:
It is estimated that two million dust mites can thrive in an unprotected mattress. Combine that with other allergy triggers such as pet dander and pollen, and your mattress can become a haven for allergens. Protect-A-Bed’s state-of-the-art mattress and pillow protectors offer the ultimate allergy protection. The fitted-sheet style covers place an impenetrable barrier between you and allergens, while remaining breathable and comfortable. The ultra-thin, extra soft and super absorbent mattress and pillow protectors will not detract from the comfort of your bedding, and the products are easy-to-use, machine washable, waterproof and stain resistant.
For chronic allergy sufferers, Protect-A-Bed offers full mattress encasements for mattresses and box springs – a solution for many allergy sufferers to get an uninterrupted good night sleep because they fully encase the mattress.
I was sent a mattress and pillow protector set to try out and see how well they would help my sleep at night.
Here’s my take on them:
We’ve had the mattress protector on our bed for a little while now, and the pillow protector is on the pillow that I sleep against every night – one of two on my side of the bed. I don’t use a feather pillow anymore, but I still have noticed a difference once I began using the Protect-A-Bed pillow protector. My allergies generally manifest as excessive sinus drainage, headaches and sinus infections. And not only have my headaches improved, but I don’t feel nearly as miserable if I happen to miss a day of my allergy medication. And I’m pretty sure that it’s because of the protection from the Protect-A-Bed products, since nothing else in our house has changed.
One of the other benefits is that we didn’t have a mattress pad of any sort on our bed before. And with a little girl who’s mostly potty trained at night (keep the ‘mostly’ in mind!) and likes to climb into our bed every so often, having a waterproof barrier between her and the mattress is definitely a good thing. Unlike mattress pads I’ve used in the past, this one is not noisy or uncomfortable – it simply feels like another layer of sheet beneath you.
The bottom line:
Protect-A-Bed offers a comfortable protection that any allergy sufferer can benefit from. And with products for smaller bed sizes as well, including cribs, they are a great way to protect your children at naptime and night as well.
Where can you find them?:
You can purchase Protect-A-Bed products directly from their website at http://www.protectabed.com, or at Amazon. They cost in the range from $19.99 for a pillow protector to anywhere from $60 to $100 for a mattress protector or encasement.
Would you like to try them?:
I have the opportunity to offer a mattress and pillow protector set to a lucky reader! The winner can choose between an AllerZip Mattress Protector (for individuals with extreme allergies) a Premium Mattress Protector or, if they prefer, a Crib Mattress Protector. Additionally they will also receive a Premium Pillow Protector. If you would like to try a set of these in your own home, here are the rules:

Congratulations to Auriette (no blog) who said, “I have mild allergies, but my husband has serious allergies. I’ve bought him a few pillow covers, but never a mattress protector. I’d love to be able to try this to see if it could make a difference for him.“! I will be e-mailing you shortly to work out the details.

MY poor son suffers terribly and I have allergies too. Would like to give this for my son, ty. Their toffee is made with butter, sugar, Guittard chocolates, and almonds.
I’d get this for my son. He’s a bedwetter and is pretty sick of sleeping on the crunchy plastic mattress protector he has now. This would be a lot more like regular sheets! Thanks!
