Review and Giveaway: Roseda Beef Steakburgers

July 10, 2008 by Deb

My husband is the pickiest eater that I’ve ever met. He’s basically your traditional ‘meat and potatoes’ kind of guy, with very few other options. He’ll turn up his nose at a vegetable stir-fry or casserole, but give him a steak or a good burger, and he’s all set. I may not be as picky, but I do enjoy a good steak or burger myself when I have the chance as well.

I recently had the opportunity to try and test out Roseda Beef’s Steakburgers, and I can safely say that I think that this is my husband’s favorite product that I’ve reviewed.  :)

What they are:

rosedalogo Roseda Beef is a family-operated business that’s been producing quality, all-natural beef products since 1999. According to Roseda, their signature Steakburgers are made with the same meat as premium steak, but in burger form. The Steakburgers are all-natural (cattle are raised in clean, healthy environments with absolutely no synthetic hormones or antibiotics, unless medically necessary), and are made from Black Angus beef that is raised locally through Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware. The burgers are then dry-aged for 14-21 days, about a week longer than the majority of beef producers; this ensures juicy flavor and delicious taste in every burger. Along with burgers, they also sell steaks and roasts, available through their website and shipped directly to your home.

Here’s my take on them:

The burger patties arrived vacuum sealed and frozen, with dry ice to keep them that way during shipping. They were sent UPS overnight and arrived in great shape. I immediately stuck them in the freezer until we decided to grill them.

We didn’t wait too long – we actually had company coming that day, so were thrilled to have an impromptu cookout that evening for dinner. After a quick run to the store for hamburger buns, we were all set.

My husband eagerly fired up the grill for four of the Steakburgers, and also grilled hot dogs for those of the kids who aren’t hamburger fans. Although it’s recommended to thaw the beef before cooking, it is also possible to grill them frozen, according to the instructions. So we went straight from frozen patties:

To the grill:

And to the plate:

Although we only cooked four of the burgers (two for my husband, one for me and one for my friend), we did have the kids (those who like hamburgers to begin with) sample them as well. They were definitely impressed. As were the adults – my husband said that he would gladly eat these for dinner every night if possible. And I thought that it was just like eating a high-quality restaurant burger, but right in my living room. We all agreed – the Steakburgers were absolutely delicious, and I can’t wait to grill the rest of them. I have the feeling that we’re all going to be fighting over those last four. ;)

The bottom line:

Roseda Beef‘s signature Steakburgers are a natural, high-quality, gourmet product to feed your family – and a great option for summer cookouts. I think we’ll be trying their steaks as well – and I love the fact that they’re sent right to your door without having to make an extra trip to the grocery store or butcher shop.

Where can you find them?:

You can order directly from the Roseda Beef website and the beef will be shipped directly to you. A 4-pack of Steakburgers such as we tried costs only around $10 plus shipping. They run monthly specials on various products and also have a newsletter that you can sign up for to receive future coupons and be notified of promotions and sales.

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. The random number generator has chosen comment #30 as the winner:

Congratulations to the mama hood, who said “I love grilling steak and chicken! Ooh and Shish Kabobs! My tip is for chicken. When I grill chicken, I put it on the hottest part of the grill and cook it for 3 minutes on each side. Then move it to a cooler area and baste it every so often and turn it frequently until meat is no longer pink. This makes it so that the sauce doesn’t burn and you have more even cooking.”! I will be e-mailing you to work out the details of getting the summer cookout kit sent to you.

Re-Visiting this review (January 2010):

Oh, re-reading this made me hungry for some good steakburgers again. We haven’t had any of these since I reviewed them. Not because we didn’t like them (oh we did, for sure), but mainly because our grocery budget has been severely limited since I was laid off from my full-time job and we just plain don’t spend any extra money that we don’t have to. We also tore down our backyard deck last year and haven’t really used the grill at all much since then. I still have these in mind for once we’re able to have a little more leeway in our grocery budget and are able to grill more again. Until then, I’ll just have to leave my mouth watering.  :)

Going back about a dozen years I invited all of my coworkers over for a cookout, many of whom my hubby RB had never met. I also invited my family over. RB would be arriving late because he was working that day. Since I didn’t want to wait for him to get the grill started, and because I have a fear of grills, I asked Jay, one of my male coworkers, to get the grill going. The grill was tricky to start, and it took Jay about a fifteen minutes to figure out the trick to getting it started. About fifteen minutes after he got it going RB got home. I was standing with Jay when RB came out back and asked me who’d gotten the grill going. I told him Jay had, after much trouble and effort. Before I could introduce Jay to my hubby, RB said well we both know Jay’s not known for his intelligence. I was mortified. Jay my coworker looked astonished and hurt and wasn’t saying anything. At that moment I realized hubby thought I was referring to my brother Jay, not a coworker. I quickly regrouped, grabbing and extending RB’s and Jay’s hands toward each other and introducing them. My husband turned bright red in embarrassment and apologized for making an ass of himself. Jay was a great sport and forgave him. The rest of the cookout went smoothly.

A grilling tip: Make sure you rub your grill down with oil (or cooking spray) so your food doesn’t stick! Its important, especially when grilling fish or seafood!

My best grilling tip. Aluminum foil for everything except hamburgers. Have to have that charbroiled taste.

My best grilling tip for steaks is to let the meat come to room temperature before cooking—at least that’s what the steakmasters say! Thanks for the giveaway.

My tip…If you do a bad enough job grilling, your hubby won’t ask you to do it anymore. Altho in my defense it wasn’t on purpose…

Yummy…I love to BBQ. One of my favorite meals as a kid (and now!) are foil dinners. We throw all of our favorite ingredients (meat, veggies, potatoes, etc.) in a foil pouch and grill it up. Simply unwrap and enjoy!

I like my meat done extra, extra, extra well to the point of being a hockey puck. Seriously I do. I don’t like any juice in there at all. So, my view of when meat is cooked through is seriously warped because it all looks bloody raw to me when it’s pink or juicy. I try so hard to cook my family’s meat to their liking but when I think it’s still medium they tell me otherwise. Anyhow, the first time I tried grilling I cooked hamburgers and I put mine on earlier than everyone else’s so that was fine. I looked at the burgers and was convinced that they were still nice and juicy and flavorful so I took them all off and plated them and they just looked at me like I had lost my mind. They were like charcoal and the edges were actually not even meat anymore, just char. My husband had to start all over with fresh patties. That was the first and last time I grilled.
