Holiday Gift Guide – Review and Giveaway: Purry Logic

My family, with a couple of exceptions, are cat people. We currently have three of them, who think that they rule the house of course. Sometimes I almost have to wonder if they’re right about that.
My oldest daughter is and always has been the one of our girls who loves cats. Oh the other two girls adore and play constantly with our two kittens, but their sister is the one who has to have everything ‘cat’ from t-shirts to calendars, down to her having checked out every single book at the school library last year in first grade (including reference books) related to ‘cat’ or ‘kitty’.
So when I had the opportunity, courtesy of the Family Review Network, to review the book Purry Logic by Jane Seabrook, I knew exactly who I would enlist to help me.
What it is:
Purry Logic is the newest book in watercolorist Jane Seabrook’s Furry Logic book series – which also include ‘Wild Wisdom’, ‘Laugh at Life’ and ‘Parenthood’. Filled with Jane’s beautiful drawings, Purry Logic also includes humorous sayings and witticisms, all from the cat’s point of view, of course.
With advice like, “Do the absolute minimum. Always. Try to do even less.”, and “If you didn’t make the rules, just ignore them.”, Purry Logic is full of ‘cattitude’!
Here’s my our take on it:
I knew that this book would be right up my 7-year-old’s alley, and I was right. From the first squeal when I showed her the book, to her coming to me a mere 30 minutes later to announce that she’d finished reading and “love it, Mommy!”, she’s hardly put it down since. In fact, I only got my hands on it while she was at school.
As a cat fan myself, I love how expressive the illustrations are, and how well the kitties’ expressions go along with the saying or tidbit shared on the pages as well. The cats almost seem to leap right off of the pages, and you can almost hear the words as if they’re thinking them as you read. I also really like how the words flow around and with the drawings – almost like the cats are playing with the words, which of course, you know they would if they could.
I love the saying for this fun photo – “I prefer the kind of work I can do with my feet up and my eyes closed”. Now if that isn’t a kitty cat’s motto, I don’t know what is. And the kitty featured on the page that states, “As a matter of fact, I haven’t moved since you left this morning” has a glare in its eye that I’ve seen in our own cats’ faces more times than I can count.
The bottom line:
Purry Logic is the perfect gift for the feline fan or cat-lover on your list, who’s sure to enjoy both the wonderful illustrations and the wry witticisms. Kids of all ages will enjoy the book as well – even my 2-year-old has gotten her hands on the ‘kitty book’ while her big sister’s at school and loves looking at the pictures. And older kids to adults will love the added dimension of the words that seem as if the author read the mind of pretty much any housecat out there. The compact size (6”x6”) makes it a great choice for stocking stuffers.

We are ‘cat people’ too, my kids would love this book but I think my daughter would love it the most.
I love cats! Growing up we always had 2 or 3 cats, my favorite were always the orange fluffy ones. I don’t have a cat right now because we are off at grad school and renting a place (no cats allowed). Sad I know. But one days I’ll have a cute fluff ball again! If I win I would give this book to my mom or mother in law (they are both cat lovers) or if I’m tempted I’ll keep it!!!
Hi,
we are cat lovers here and my son loves him to death (his name is Charlie, the cat that it). If we won, we would keep the book ourselves, we’d love it, thanks.

We have four kitties here at the moment. Two rescues from death row, two that “found” us. Since I don’t know how to say no, the number could change at any given moment
We don’t currently have a cat. Ours went to cat heaven a little over a year ago and since we were moving soon we decided to wait before getting another one. We are all settled now and we’re looking for the perfect furry friend. I’d put this book in the children’s section that we keep in our bookcase for when the grandkids are visiting. Thanks!
I’m a subscriber, also!!
We had a wonderful Siamese named Mitsu when I was growing up. I miss not having one now, but hope to have one soon!!
