Review and Giveaway: Filterstream DirtTamer

November 23, 2008 by Deb

Ok, I admit – I’ve tried hand vacuums in the past. I mean, they just sound like such a great idea – you simply grab it and suck up any spills that happen in the kitchen or wherever else in your house your kids make messes.  :)

But what I’ve usually found is that the hand vacuums simply just don’t hold up or work as well as they’re supposed to. And I end up lugging out the ‘big’ vacuum or the broom and dustpan anyway, or worse yet, leaving the little messes until they become big ones.

I know, not exactly the best housekeeping method, that’s for sure.

But when I had the opportunity to try out the DirtTamer hand vacuum from Filterstream, I was intrigued and excited to give hand vacuums another try – especially with a two-year-old in the house who practically oozes crumbs and spills everywhere she goes.

What it is:

FS_Splash_01 The Filterstream Company is “a leader in delivering innovative cleaning appliances” in over 26 countries around the world. And they are “dedicated to making homes cleaner and healthier with unique products offering superior quality and the very latest technology”.

The DirtTamer Supreme® V2400 is a revolutionary hand vacuum that picks up wet or dry spills with 200% more suction than leading competitors. It has a patented 3-stage HEPA filtration system that captures 99.97% of dust, pollen, bacteria and other allergens down to 0.3 microns in size. And it also includes a dirt-finding headlight, charge and low battery indicators, a wall-mountable charging base, three cleaning tools (a patented extendable cleaning wand/crevice tool, a squeegee, and an upholstery brush) that store on the base, one HEPA filter, and one washable/reusable foam filter.

Courtesy of the Family Review Network, I received a DirtTamer Supreme® V2400 to try out.

Here’s my take on it:

WeimanProducts_006I practically giggled when I opened the box containing the DirtTamer. One of my biggest and most annoying chores lately is to keep my kitchen floor even somewhat clean. Between kids who can’t seem to eat breakfast without dropping 8,000 pieces of cereal all over, to a toddler who hasn’t yet learned to carry bowls and cups right-side up, my floor is usually a disaster. I was hoping that the DirtTamer would be my savior from sticky floors and crumbs sticking to my feet every time I walk through the room.

I opened the box and immediately was struck by how sturdy the DirtTamer is. And I love how compactly all of the extra tools fit right inside the base. I was a bit confused about the two separate filters at first, until I realized that you use the HEPA filter in place of the forma one. I immediately switched them out, because between our 3 cats, and my allergies to dust and pollen, I need all the help I can get with filtering everything out of the air.

I’m going to refrain from showing you before and after pictures of my sticky, crumb-covered floor – but the difference is amazing. I LOVE this hand vacuum! It’s so easy to grab and just suck up all of the bits and pieces of breakfast that end up all over the floor in the mornings, or pretty much after any meal. And a mess like this,

KittyFoodScattered

that normally would have had me groaning in frustration with the idea of having to pull out the broom and dustpan to clean up (with 2 mischievous kittens in the house – this is one kind of mess that happens much more than I would like) took literally just a minute to clean up.

Another thing that I really love is that the DirtTamer will clean up wet spills as well as dry messes! So all of those milk spills or times when it’s the cats’ water dish that’s spilled all over instead of (or in addition to) the food bowl, are no longer the nightmare that they used to be to get cleaned up. I no longer have to soak up spills with a multitude of paper towels, or to use our regular towels that end up soggy and sopping.

My only complaint? Is that I have yet to get my husband to actually mount the charging base on the wall, so it’s currently taking up valuable real estate on my limited kitchen counter space…

WeimanProducts_009

But really, that’s a minor worry since having the DirtTamer around is so very worth it, counter space or no counter space. I just can’t wait until I can simply grab it off the wall and start sucking up every crumb or piece of lint in sight. I think it might be time for me to dig out the drill and take matters into my own hands. After all, if I make a mess – I now have the perfect tool to clean it up.  :)

The bottom line:

I almost can’t imagine how I got by before I had the DirtTamer in my arsenal of cleaning supplies. I hate sweeping my kitchen floor and every lightweight vacuum that I’ve tried has been awkward to use or just didn’t do the job well enough. Or had long cords to contend with – just not worth pulling out for every little mess. But the DirtTamer is so very simple to use and convenient to grab whenever something is spilled or dropped. My kitchen floor hasn’t been this clean in well – ever, I think. I know that the DirtTamer’s not a substitute for a good thorough sweeping or mopping (nor is it intended to be), but it’s perfect for those messes that life (or kids… or pets) throw at you on a daily basis.  :)

Where can you find it?:

The FilterStream V2400 DirtTamer Supreme is available at http://www.filterstream.com or at select specialty vacuum retailers.  You can also purchase it from Amazon as well – it’s currently listed at $67.50.

Would you like to try it?:

I have the opportunity to offer a Weiman and Filterstream prize pack totaling $100 in value! The prize pack includes: Wright’s Silver Polish, Perfect Planet Floor Cleaner, Weiman E-Tronic Wipes (see my review), Weiman Leather Wipes, Weiman Cook Top Wipes (see my review), and a Filterstream DirtTamer Supreme V2400 hand vacuum.

Please note that this giveaway is also available on my review of the Weiman Cook Top and E-Tronic Wipes as well. There is only one prize pack in total available, so if you enter on both posts, that counts as two entries into the same contest (the same with extra entry options – just leave me comments for each extra entry on both posts and you can double your chances!). All entries from both posts will be combined at the end of the giveaway before a winner is drawn.

If you would like a chance to win these awesome products to try in your own home, here are the rules:

  1. Enter by leaving a comment here to tell me which of the features of the DirtTamer Supreme 2400 you think you would like the most. Please don’t just say ‘choose me’, or your entry will be discarded.
  2. The contest will run until Wednesday, December 10th at 11:59 pm EST. The winner will be selected through random drawing, contacted by e-mail, listed on this post and also submitted to PRIZEY.Fetch. US entries only, please.
  3. Please leave a valid e-mail address or other way to contact you! If you don’t wish to leave your e-mail address, please make sure that you leave a unique name and check back with PRIZEYWinners to see if you won. If the winner hasn’t responded within 3 days, an alternate winner will be chosen by random drawing.
  4. If you’d like some extra entries, you can either:
  • Subscribe to my RSS feed (click on the orange icon in the upper right sidebar) or subscribe via e-mail – leave me a separate comment to let me know.
  • Put the button for my Holiday Gift Guide on your blog’s sidebar – the code for it is in my sidebar.
  • Mention this contest on your blog with a link back to this post, and leave a separate comment with the link to your post so I can find it.
  • Either Twitter about, ‘Stumble’, ‘Digg’ or ‘Kirtsy’ this post – leave me a separate comment with your username at whichever site you chose (one extra entry).

So that’s a total of 5 comments/entries if you do all of the extra entry options.

Good luck!  :)

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED – after combining all entries from both posts and taking out the trackback comments, there were a total of 342 entries into this giveaway! The random number has chosen comment #315 as the winner:

Congratulations to Amanda (no blog) who said, “I love that I could go from cleaning up dirt on the floor to sucking up wet spills that’s awesome. And a Hepa filter is icing on the cake!“! I will be e-mailing you shortly to work out the details.

This sounds like a great little vacuum. I think my favorite thing is the HEPA filter which would certainly help with my allergies. (It’s so tiring to vacuum and then react to whatever dust has been released into the air.)
