Playing our way to a cure… (and a giveaway!)

This is my last post this week on the topic of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and some of the different ways in which products and companies are helping to support the cause and the search for a cure. So far we’ve already looked at some of the food-related products, the household-related products and products which don’t really fit into any kind of category. In this post, I’ll be sharing some of the entertainment-related companies and products that are ‘going pink’:

  • If you don’t already own one of the super popular Nintendo DS Lite handheld gaming systems – here’s another reason to get one for yourself – the Limited Edition Pink Ribbon version. And here’s another, even better reason:  for every one of these one-time creations sold, Nintendo will donate $5 to Susan G. Komen For The Cure, for a minimum donation of $100,000.
  • Wilson is the Official Sporting Goods Equipment Sponsor of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. They donate a percentage of the Hope tennis and golf product’s proceeds to the BCRF.
  • Philosophy, Art of Grace, Amy Grant and the Women’s Cancer Research Fund have come together to build hope against women’s cancers.  For 99 cents, you can download the inspirational song She Colors My Day, recorded and performed by Amy Grant. Or you can purchase one of several Philosophy “She Colors My Day” products – all net proceeds from which are donated to the WCRF.
  • Dado Pink Cubes are a twist on classic building blocks and engage the imagination as the slits on each cube interlock to create an unlimited number of three-dimensional structures. And now, the “interlocking” takes on a whole new dimension as these Cubes go Pink to connect for a cause. A full 10% of every purchase of Dado Pink will be contributed to The Liz’s Legacy Fund, a charitable program benefiting the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center, a nationally-recognized leader in cancer research.
  • Canon is offering the PowerShot SD1100 IS / SELPHY CP760 – “Pink” Bundle, which includes the PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH camera and the SELPHY CP760 Compact Photo Printer, both in Pink Melody. The camera is an 8.0 Megapixel camera with 3x Optical Zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer. The SELPHY CP760 Compact Photo Printer features large buttons, a 2.5-inch display, and automatic red-eye correction that enables consumers to simply create superb prints, from card size up to 4″ x 8″. The kit also contains a Pink Ribbon Charm and a Mammogram Reminder Magnet to help increase awareness of the fight against breast cancer. In the month of October, Canon will contribute $150,000 to the American Cancer Society® in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The company’s pink campaign celebrates Canon’s 10-year support of the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer®.
  • Mattel’s Pink Ribbon Barbie Doll contributes to fighting breast cancer as both a tool to help those affected with breast cancer talk to girls, and a way to support the cause. She wears a pink gown with a signature pink ribbon pinned to her shoulder, and $2.50 is donated to Susan G. Komen For The Cure for each doll sold, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $25,000.00.
  • Comcast’s Pink Ribbon Campaign offers several different ways to contribute and donate toward the cause. At their site are many resources for patients and those who have loved ones fighting this disease, as well – from videos for chemo patients on how to take control of your look, to an ‘Ask The Doctor’ feature and a video on how to talk to kids about cancer, there’s a lot of helpful features.

I have one last giveaway related to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. When I began working on this series, I explored the sites as I discovered them, and found myself spending quite a bit of time on several in particular. One of these was the Breast Cancer Site Store, which I highlighted in my post over at Mom of 3 Girls. I found several things I really liked on the site, and ended up purchasing a couple of pieces of jewelry. I don’t usually wear much jewelry anymore, but I liked these two pieces and the idea of helping to benefit the fight against Breast Cancer by purchasing them as well – wasn’t much of a decision. Here are the two items that I bought:

As part of my purchase, I received a second “Hope, Faith, Love” Triple Wish Hoop Necklace (on faux suede cord as shown on the left above) for free. And I’d love to give it away to one of you!  So if you would like one of these necklaces for your own, here are the rules:

  1. Enter by checking out the Breast Cancer Site Store and tell me one other item they sell that you like (other than the two shown above). Please don’t just say ‘choose me’, or your entry will be discarded.
  2. The contest will run until Wednesday, October 29th at 11:59 pm EST. The winner will be selected through random drawing, contacted by e-mail, listed on this post and also submitted to PRIZEY.Fetch. US entries only, please.
  3. Please leave a valid e-mail address or other way to contact you! If you don’t wish to leave your e-mail address, please make sure that you leave a unique name and check back with PRIZEYWinners to see if you won. If the winner hasn’t responded within 3 days, an alternate winner will be chosen by random drawing.
  4. If you’d like an extra entry or two, you can either subscribe to my RSS feed (click on the orange icon in the upper right sidebar), or mention this contest on your blog with a link back to this post – or both. Please leave an extra comment on this post for each of the extra entry options that you choose, letting me know – for a total of 3 comments if you do both extra entry options.

Good luck! :)

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED – the random number generator has chosen comment #4 as the winner:

Congratulations to Christy H. (no blog) who said, “I think the Perfectly Pink Tennis Bracelet is beautiful!“! I will be e-mailing you shortly to work out the details.
