Review: Glow Mama

As moms, we are always so very concerned with what our kids eat and drink and in making healthy options available for them. It starts with pregnancy – when we’re taking prenatal vitamins and eating and drinking for two by (trying to) make the best choices we can. But then once we’re taking care of a newborn baby, or trying to keep up with an active toddler (or two), sometimes looking at our own nutritional needs becomes less of a priority. But it doesn’t always have to – especially with options like Glow Mama out there.

What it is:

Invented by a mom who saw the need for a great-tasting beverage that would need the nutritional needs of women during and after pregnancy but still taste refreshing,41H8AesnmjL._SL500_AA280_ Glow Mama includes the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients (folic acid, calcium, iron, Vit C, B3, B6,  B12 and 4 grams of fiber) that moms need whether they’re eating and drinking for two, breastfeeding, or trying to keep up with a newly mobile toddler (and beyond!). Made with real kiwis, it’s a natural product that doesn’t have any artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors, or preservatives.

With the refreshing taste of kiwi, Glow Mama is a good option in order to stay hydrated, while taking care of yourself and your nutritional needs as well.  And with it being endorsed by the American Pregnancy Association, you can be sure that it’s safe.

Here’s my take on it:

Well, I may not be pregnant, breastfeeding or taking care of a newborn, but I am a mom with three active kids who outnumber me and seem to sap every last little bit of energy that I’ve got on most days. I was very curious to try Glow Mama, especially since I know that my own eating habits are pretty much anything but healthy lately.

I’m not a huge fan of juice in general (except apple), so was curious to see if I would like the taste. It’s not probably something that I would ever have tried on my own – but I’m very glad that I did.  At home, I tend to drink mostly water, with the exception of a soft drink at lunchtime every day. I don’t like having the caffeine and artificial sweeteners though, so I swapped out my usual 12-oz can for the 12-oz bottle of Glow Mama on a couple of occasions to see what I’d think.

The taste did take a sip or two to get used to, but I really like the kiwi flavor now. It’s just enough flavor that it’s something different from straight water, but I know that it’s so much healthier than soft drinks or other caffeine or sugar-laden beverages. And I didn’t feel drained or sleepy within an hour after eating lunch, like I usually do after drinking a can of pop (yes, here in Michigan, we call it ‘pop’!).

The bottom line:

Whether your pregnant, caring for kids – or even just in general, Glow Mama provides the nutrition that you need without all of the artificial stuff that you don’t. For even more fun with it – you can try one of the various ‘mocktail’ recipes found on their website at http://www.drinktoglow.com/glowmama.html.

Where can you find it?:

Glow Mama is available at many locations in northern California, online at the Glow Mama Store (a one-week sampler costs $14.45), or you can purchase a 24-pack (with free shipping!) on Amazon for $44.95.
